I wanted to write a poem.
But my heart got in the way.
Much love I thought I’d show ‘em
But illusions I need to slay.

I thought we had grown closer
In the solitude of Covid
But as lovers we are posers.
It’s to truth I am devoted.

When life reveals a friend
Has a side that he keeps hidden,
Then intimacies I did send
Boomerang to me unbidden.

I retreat to self-examine
Why I choose to link with one
Who swims opposite, like salmon,
From the river where true love is spun.

Elephants in rooms
multiply – and do they poop!
And then they exude fumes!
While residents they dupe.

Invisible but large
They find a way to pop
Into a heart that is true
And fantasy to stop.
